Beschreibung
Soft geometry. Kvam by Røros Tweed
The Kvam blanket by Norwegian manufacturer Roros Tweed was created by designer Kristine Five Melvaer. The Kvam series is characterised by its playful geometry based on the possibilities and limitations of the jacquard weave. The motif refers to the horizontal and vertical directions of the fabric, while the diagonal lines create rhythm and dynamics. The pattern can be associated with both Norwegian and Japanese motifs. The material is not only soft and cuddly, but also particularly elastic and durable, promising longevity for years.
Care instructions:
Hand wash up to 30 °C with wool detergent, iron up to max. 110 degrees! Prof. Dry clean gently!
STORY
The Røros Tweed company is located in the mountain town of Røros, 600m above sea level. A textile factory with a history all of its own, because this is where the origins of a special foundation lie.
It all started with the will of the director of a copper mill, Peder Hiort, who bequeathed his fortune to the poor of Røros in the 18th century. The money was to be used to buy wool for distribution to the poor, who used it to make clothing and textiles, which were urgently needed in the cold mountain region. The home workers delivered the products and received their wages. The textiles were then distributed to the needy.
Many who had first received wages for the work were given the produce back as a pittance. The will is still regarded as one of the most intelligent foundations in the North.
The idea of the Hiort Foundation and its competences and quality standards was taken into a new era with the establishment of Røros Tweed. A central spinning mill was set up, but the weaving was still done at home, just as it had been for over 150 years in the days of the Hiort Foundation.
Today, all Røros Tweed products are manufactured industrially and with innovative technology to meet modern demands for quality and design.
Norwegian wool from pure Norwegian production and close collaboration with leading Scandinavian textile artists and designers make Røros plaids one of Norway's most renowned quality products.
Røros tweed has been awarded the Norwegian Design Council's "Award for Outstanding Design" several times.
