Beschreibung
Small cup black by Hasami Porcelain.
The charm of Hasami Porcelain lies in its pleasantly soft feel, it feels more organic than traditional porcelain. The matt surface exudes calm and naturalness and harmonises wonderfully with food and drink.
The "Black" series has a semi-glazed surface. Food, especially oil, can cause a patina to develop. This underlines the individuality and desired imperfection in the sense of wabi-sabi, the Japanese aesthetic concept.
Hasami Porcelain's clean lines represent the essence of modern Japanese aesthetics, based on the fusion of modern design and traditional craftsmanship. The coordinated shapes, sizes and colour tones emphasise the beauty and harmony of this collection.
The modular design of Hasami Porcelain is based on the stacking principle of traditional Japanese lacquer jars (Jubako). All the porcelain pieces can be stacked and used multifunctionally. For example, the plates can be used as coasters, lids or trays. This enables efficient storage in limited spaces.
Each cup is unique, which means that slight variations may occur.
Due to the organic nature of the production of this type of porcelain tableware, colour variations between different pieces, colour irregularities within a single piece and the appearance of "spots" in the glaze as well as texture differences are completely normal and part of the organic aesthetic.
They are caused by the uncontrollable chemical reaction between the glaze and the raw materials during the extreme firing process. These changes in colour and texture are not considered second-rate or defective within the Hasami artisan community. Each piece is unique, and this is what gives HASAMI PORCELAIN its unique character.
STORY
The historic town of Hasami in Nagasaki Prefecture is one of the most important pottery districts in Japan. Hasami began producing porcelain wares almost 400 years ago during the Edo period, which were distributed throughout Japan and even Europe via the port of Nagasaki. Hasami's artisans were able to develop a highly efficient system for mass producing their porcelain products, which enabled them to achieve consistent quality and a favourable price. HASAMI PORCELAIN was designed by Takuhiro Shinomoto of Tortoise in Venice, CA, whose vision was to combine modern dinnerware design with the organic quality of traditional Japanese manufacturing techniques.
