Japanese weave towels

.

The bath towels and hand towels are made on old traditional looms, which take much more time than purely machine processing. This elaborate process improves the absorbency of the towels enormously. Likewise, it significantly increases the softness of the material, which is wonderful in towels.

Another advantage is that the yarn is not damaged by the slow weaving process. The towels are also pre-washed with spring water and bleached with orange oil. We were immediately impressed by the absorbency and softness of the towels. It is really wonderful to find such a beautiful product from a traditional production. Woven on traditional looms.

    STORY

Contex was founded in 1934 in Imabari, Japan, and produces its textiles using old traditional looms and weaving techniques. Compared to modern machines used for fast mass production, this process is more time-consuming but shows better results in terms of absorbency, texture softness and drying behaviour.

    .

All textiles are woven from pure cotton and linen without synthetic fibres. The products have different fibre content of linen and cotton. The fibres are cleaned with water flowing from Mount Ishizuchi. Natural orange oil is used for the dyeing process.
