STORY
The Shimbashi, Tokyo-based Kawachiya - the company behind the design and manufacture of the KUNISAWA stationery brand - has been providing its craftsmanship since Japan's Edo period (1603-1868). Shimbashi is recognised as the birthplace of Japan's railways and is now widely known as a district frequented by businessmen from Ginza, Marunouchi and Shinagawa. Kuniswa was launched as another new brand in 2017.
The motif of the Kunisawa brand logo is based on the mythical Japanese three-legged crow called Yatagarasu.
Yatagarasu is celebrated as a god of guidance because he uses a golden flare to guide Emeror Jimmu on his journey through the dark streets of Kumano. The three legs represent heaven, earth and humanity, meaning that all three are brothers born from the same sun.
