The Makers

Takahashi Kougei was founded in 1965 in Asahikawa, Hokkaido by Shoichi Takahashi, a lathe worker. Originally, it mainly produced table legs and decorative columns. Faced with a decline in the domestic furniture market, Takahashi Kougei began making wooden cups and sugar pots using lathes in the 1980s, becoming the founder of the Asahikawa Group of wooden tableware makers. He creates simple and functional tableware made mainly from Hokkaido trees, preserving the look and feel of the wood so that it fits naturally into contemporary lifestyles.

Takahashi Kougei is known for its intricate products made with sophisticated woodturning techniques passed down from previous generations.
The company offers simple wooden products that fit effortlessly into modern lifestyles.
